Entity authority

What Entity authority means

Entity authority is an industry term for how consistently and credibly a specific business, person or organization is described across the sources a search or AI system can see. No platform publishes a metric under that name, so the phrase describes a hypothesis about influence rather than a number anyone can read.

More precisely

In practice it is operationalised as a bundle of observable things: one consistent name, address and phone number across profiles, a single canonical page for the entity, matching identifiers linked with sameAs, and independent third-party coverage. Each is checkable. None of them is a published score, and no platform documents how, or whether, it combines them.

Why it matters

Google says outright that "E-E-A-T itself isn't a specific ranking factor," and that there are no additional requirements or special optimizations for appearing in its AI features. Anyone selling entity authority as a dial that can be turned is selling an inference dressed as a mechanism.

Example

The honest version of the work is checkable hygiene: one canonical about page, identical business details everywhere, and identifiers that agree with each other.
